Welcome to Clovis Real Estate! We’re a boutique, family-owned business who understands that selling or buying a home is much more than a business transaction. We provide our clients with all of the tools they need to make an informed decision on whether to sell or buy a home (see, Why Choose Us)
My wife, Rebecca, and I started Clovis Real Estate because we had a not-so-good experience when we relocated to Clovis. With two job offers in hand; we needed to decide whether to pack our lives into boxes and head to the Central Valley. We had done our due diligence, gleaning over possible bits of information about Clovis from various websites. Unfortunately none of it was all that helpful and we struggled to find sufficient information about the area so we could make an informed decision. We weren’t asking for much. We just wanted to know about the schools, best places to live, things to do around town, and a vet to look after Jake, our beautiful Golden Retriever with food allergies. A few photos and perhaps a video of the area would have been wonderful, but we knew that was asking for too much, as we couldn’t even find basic information, let alone any pictures.
In spite of the lack of information to help us decide whether Clovis was the right place for us, we decided to move anyway. Our jobs were too good to pass up and we liked the thought of being close to the mountains and the coast, not to mention Los Angeles and San Francisco. We rented for a year in north Fresno (Woodward Lake) to learn the Fresno metropolitan area. After months of reconnaissance work, we concluded that Clovis was indeed the area we wanted to call “home”. It had everything we were looking for: safe neighborhoods, great schools, and affordable homes. Now all we had to do was find the perfect Clovis home.
We began by searching homes online, driving through neighborhoods, and going to open houses. We knew what we were looking for, we just had to get out there and find it. Soon thereafter, we found ourselves reluctantly calling phone numbers on yard signs. Instead of a leisurely stroll through a home where we could weigh its pros and cons, we found ourselves scurrying in and out to avoid agents nipping at our heals and bombarding us with questions. We would have gladly worked with a real estate agent, had we found one who realized we didn’t need or want a sales pitch for the umpteenth time about how great the market it is and why we should buy NOW before prices go up (never mind this was in 2007 – the height of real estate market crash). Every pushy personality we encountered simply made us want to ignore our ringing cell phones. Didn’t they know all we wanted to do was take our time and look?
We eventually found a home (thanks to a patient Realtor, Matt Heinricy). We ran into Matt at an open house (we had learned it was “safer” to only view homes during open houses with crowds of other people). He was polite, professional, and knowledgeable. And he didn’t try to “sell” us every home we saw. We spent the next 8 months with him looking — until we finally found “the one.”
After moving day and the boxes were put away, we thought there’s surely got to be a better way to buy a Clovis home. That summer, on an evening walk along a bike trail outside our home in Clovis, the idea of Clovis Real Estate was born. Even though we no longer needed a home, we knew others did.
We combined our 8 college degrees in law, business, art, education, and administration and formed Clovis Real Estate. When other companies were closing their doors due to the souring economy and real estate downturn, we were opening ours. As full-time college professors (Fresno State and Fresno Pacific) we started out helping others find their ideal Clovis home on weekends and during the summer months when our universities closed down. Little did we know what would soon happen to our start-up business.
That was in 2009. Looking back, what began as a husband and wife hobby has turned into a thriving business. Since then, we’ve now helped our
clients buy and sell homes all throughout Clovis and Fresno. As client’s schedules and our teaching duties called for more flexibility, we eventually hired who we thought were the best Realtors in the area based on our personal dealings and experiences. You can probably guess whom we contacted first? That’s right, Matt.
A lot has changed since we first opened our doors. We now employ 10 Realtors, all of whom hold the same beliefs as we do about real estate. That
buying a home isn’t merely a business transaction. That belief has served us well. We initially started out serving only the Clovis area. But in 2011, we opened our sister company, Fresno Real Estate, due to demand so we could help others buy a home anywhere in Clovis, Fresno, or any other nearby community in Fresno county.
It hasn’t all been about nurturing a business these past few years. Rebecca and I are now proud adoptive parents of two remarkable girls and find ourselves attending soccer practice and cross-country meets on a regular basis. Afterward we traverse down the streets of Clovis until we pull into our driveway – home. Our girls are a constant reminder that buying a home is much more than a business transaction.
